How to Turn Self Loathing into Passion!

Self Loathing is temporary

When we mess up, there is a tendency to loathe ourselves.  There are kingdom keys in scripture that show us how to turn that around.  Maybe even into passion!

Stop the perpetual merry go round

In this podcast I am talking about changing our attitude of self loathing after we mess up into passion. This may sound strange, but I have come across a Kingdom Key to turn things around. I have fought that battle. I have been around that block several times.

Godly Sorrow Brings about repentance

The anchor text to keep in mind is 2 Corinthians 7:9,10

Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
(2Co 7:9-10)

The bible talks about Self Loathing as a part of repentance

And there shall ye remember your ways, and all your doings, wherein ye have been defiled; and ye shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that ye have committed.
(Eze 20:43)

So, if you didn’t think that self loathing was in the bible, there it is.  But there is more learn!

Self Loathing can self perpetuate

When we're sorry for a sin that we've committed, or feel terrible about our trespass against the Lord - this should be a  temporary feeling. This is the beginning of repentance and not something permanent.

If we start out with self hate and self loathing and we don't transform ourselves by the renewing of our minds,  this self hate and self loathing will perpetuate and become a part of who we are. It will become our nature and our character.  We will be bitter people.

It's like spinning a plate. If we spin the plate of self loathing, our subconscious mind agrees with and perpetuates that sentiment. Then our conscious mind will come back from time to time and spin that plate some more. This reminds me of the verse  “as a man thinks in his heart so is he” (proverbs 23:7). We can perpetuate these loathing feelings and this can morph into something like self harm.

Perpetuating severe Depression

One of the ways I learned this kingdom key,  is that  I had a problem with severe depression. I began believing the lies of the devil and agreeing with those lies.  Pretty soon I would find myself in bed for three days with a pillow over my head. I did not cast down that vain imagination in the beginning when I first noticed the lies   I did not delight myself in the Lord in the beginning of my faulty thought life. I let it perpetuate to the point of it being debilitating.

Our negative mindset affects other areas of our life.

When we begin with the mindset of self loathing it turns everything else that we do into drudgery. Even ministry. We can stop looking at evangelism as  making a positive impact in the world and we can look at it as drudgery.  We will be operating from a  sense of dread. Winning souls and changing the world for Jesus will seem like a chore.

The Key is to Change the mind early

We need to  kill the giant when he's small. These self loathing thoughts start out simple and easy to deal with, however  as we replay or rehearse these negative thoughts they can turn into steel cables over time.  They  are much harder to deal with later.  The idea is to pluck up that root of bitterness early, before it becomes an unmanageable weed.

David went from despair to encouraging himself in the Lord

David was going to be stoned by the people he knew and loved. David took initiative to go from being in despair to encourage himself in the Lord his God (1 Samuel 30:6 ). This is an example for us to cast down vain imaginations and start agreeing with what God says about us (2 Corinthians 10:5). David sets an example of renewing the mind. David changed his mind about the situation and then moved from a defeated person to being victorious.  Because he encouraged himself in what God said.

I believe strongly in the biblical precept of communing with their heart in the night seasons. If our spirit, mind,  and heart are incongruent with God we are working at counter purposes for the Kingdom. We need to get in alignment with what God has for us to do. We need to bring every thought into the obedience of Christ.

Live with an Attitude of Gratitude

One of the ways I have learned to be transformed by the renewing of my mind is simply to count my blessings. I start listing off the things that I'm grateful for. I delight myself in the Lord and God gives me the desires of my heart (Psalm 37:4). There is a crescendo of joy that takes place. I then begin to experience joy, passion,  and purpose.  This further inspires me to take ground for Jesus.

Getting Close to God

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
(Psa 100:4)

This verse instructs us to  enter His gates with Thanksgiving and into His courts with praise. I start counting my blessings and maybe I will grab my guitar and start worshiping God. That means I'm getting close to God. God has the Kingdom keys for every problem I have.  He has the answer to every problem in the universe. As I approach Him, I cannot help but develop an attitude of gratitude. I find myself operating from passion.  Drudgery is no longer a part of my life.

Prioritize Seeking God First!

If we seek the Lord first thing like Matthew 633 says, God will be about our business as we are about His. We must seek Him first chronologically and in our hierarchy of values.  He is our Shepherd, and we shall not be in want. If we prioritize God, everything else will line up.

Sorrow turns into repentance

Paul rejoiced that the Corinthians were made sorry so that they would repent. This is a godly type of sorrow and people are not supposed to stay there forever. That sorrow turns into repentance. However,  worldly sorrow brings death.

The Get out of Self Loathing Prison -Kingdom Key

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
(1Jn 1:8-10)

I have one of these Kingdom keys "get out of self loathing" cards and that's in first John where he talks about how we all sin.  John goes on to say that when we do sin, Jesus is Just and  faithful to forgive us.  We simply confess our sins, and repent.  . This is a perspective Kingdom Key I use quite often.  I hold the Lord at His word and trust what he says to be true

What starts out as self loathing can turn into ‘dis ease’

I believe self perpetuating these negative self loathing thoughts turns into disease. A negative thought turns into an emotion.  These emotions often manifest in our bodies as physical feelings. I have had the sense of dread or worry  actually make me secrete stomach acid. My dad worried so much that he developed ulcers and needed prescription antacids.

Antacids are not the solution.  they only deal with the symptoms.  We need to root up that fear and operate from the vantage point of faith as the bible says!
