My Grandfather used to tell me that every time I get bucked off a horse just get right back on. In other words, continue until I mastered the horse.
God tells us early in Genesis chapter four that sin lies at the door and we are to rule over it.
Genesis 4:7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
Sin is trying to destroy us :-) And he has a lot of help from our flesh!
But seriously, if we've dug ourselves a pit. Or we have developed an iniquity. Or we have opened that door to sin to where the Devil comes in and tramples us over, and over, and over. I'm going to tell you - JUST CONTINUE!
Do you want freedom? Continue in the word of God! Don't give up. Get back on the horse every time you get bucked off!
Jesus tells us if we continue in His Word we will be His disciples and we will know the truth and the truth will make us free.
John 8:31-32 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (notice the 'if and' correlation??).
Are you still getting beat up by the devil? Get back on the horse and continue seeking God in his word.
Paul talks about this In Chapter 2 of 2nd Timothy.
2 Timothy 2:24-26 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, 25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
Often we oppose ourselves or are self-destructive because we keep opening that Genesis 4:7 door to the devil.
Just continue. God rewards those that DILIGENTLY SEEK HIM!
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Here are some scriptures to meditate upon about the benefits of continuing in the Word:
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
Joshua 1:8
As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
1 Peter 2:2
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Colossians 3:16
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
Psalms 119:11
My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
