Michelle Stokley Testimony for Jesus
I've had the privilege of witnessing many incredible testimonies of God's transformative power. Today, I want to share with you an extraordinary story of hope, healing, and divine encounter. I recently had the opportunity to interview Michelle Stokley, a woman whose life was radically changed by an encounter with Jesus. Her journey from despair to purpose is a powerful reminder of God's love and the supernatural impact of a spiritual experience.
The Path to Darkness
Michelle's story begins with a series of challenging life events that led her down a path of pain and depression. At just 24 years old, while 31 weeks pregnant, she suffered a severe back injury that ended her nursing career. This injury was the catalyst for a cascade of health problems and chronic pain issues that would plague her for years.
"I had arthritis from the top of my spine all the way down, degenerative disc disease, scoliosis, and issues with my spinal cord," Michelle explained. "The doctors even thought I might have multiple sclerosis or fibromyalgia."
To make matters worse, due to her young age and the prevalence of prescription drug abuse in her area, doctors were hesitant to treat her pain adequately. This led to a downward spiral of physical and emotional suffering.
"You lose your identity," Michelle shared. "I was always 'Michelle the nurse,' and suddenly, I didn't know who I was anymore."
The weight of chronic pain, coupled with a loss of purpose and identity, plunged Michelle into a deep depression. Despite having given her life to God at the age of 12, she found herself drifting away from her faith, unable to reconcile her suffering with her belief in a loving God.
A Cry for Home
As Michelle's depression worsened, she began to experience suicidal thoughts. "I had a longing to go to a home that I didn't know," she recalled. "I would beg God, 'I just want to go home,' but I didn't know where home was."
This feeling of displacement and longing for a spiritual home is not uncommon among those struggling with depression and a crisis of faith. It's a testament to the deep, innate human need for connection with our Creator.
The Turning Point: 12/12/12
On December 12, 2012 (12/12/12), Michelle's life changed forever. At 11:58 PM, she began to feel strange and suddenly found herself having an out-of-body experience.
"I felt myself rise out of my body," Michelle described. "I was aware of different surroundings. There were beautiful colors around me - like a rose lavender and soft pink blend. It was warm, loving, and peaceful."
In this spiritual realm, Michelle encountered a brilliant white light with a shimmering gold center. As the light approached, she recognized it as Jesus.
"For the first time in my life, I knew that I was loved," Michelle said, her voice filled with emotion. "I knew I was accepted, and there was nothing I had to do for that love. It was overwhelming."
Jesus embraced Michelle, and as He did, the golden light flashed and entered her being. In that moment, everything changed.
The Transformation
When Michelle returned to her physical body, she found herself sobbing with joy and revelation. "All I could say for about five minutes was 'I believe, I believe, I believe,'" she recalled.
This encounter marked the beginning of a profound transformation in Michelle's life:
1. Physical Healing: Michelle experienced significant relief from her chronic pain. While she still has occasional difficult days, the debilitating pain that once controlled her life is gone.
2. Emotional Healing: The depression that had gripped her for years lifted. She no longer struggles with suicidal thoughts or overwhelming sadness.
3. Renewed Purpose: Michelle discovered a new sense of purpose and meaning in her life. She knew God had a plan for her, even if she didn't yet know the details.
4. Spiritual Awakening: Her faith was reignited, and she developed a deep, personal relationship with Jesus that continues to guide her life.
5. New Perspective: Michelle's entire worldview shifted. "The next day, I stepped outside and looked around. It was as if I was seeing the world for the very first time. Everything was beautiful."
Living Out Her Purpose
Since her encounter with Jesus, Michelle has embraced her calling to serve God and others. She now sings on her church's worship team, overcoming her previous fear of performing. "I'm able to get up there and just sing my heart out for Jesus because I know I'm not singing for people, I'm singing for the glory of God," she shared.
Additionally, Michelle has trained as a facilitator for the Living Free Ministry, a program similar to Teen Challenge that helps people overcome life-controlling issues. This work allows her to use her own experiences to help others find freedom and healing.
Biblical Reflection
Michelle's testimony reminds me of the Apostle Paul's encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:1-19). Like Paul, Michelle's life was dramatically redirected by a supernatural encounter with Christ. Her story exemplifies the transformative power of God's love and the reality of spiritual experiences in the lives of believers.
In 2 Corinthians 5:17, Paul writes, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" Michelle's testimony is a living example of this scripture, demonstrating how a personal encounter with Jesus can make us new creations, free from the bondage of our past.
Conclusion
Michelle Stokley's journey from darkness to light is a powerful reminder of God's love, grace, and power to transform lives. Her story encourages us to hold onto hope, even in our darkest moments, knowing that God can turn our pain into purpose.
If you're struggling with depression, chronic pain, or a loss of purpose, I encourage you to reach out to God. He is always ready to meet you where you are and lead you into a new life of freedom and purpose.
